EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY - Dr. Richard Porr

Welcome to this PBWorks Site that supports integration of technology into Education Practice for beginning teachers and teacher candidates.

Congratulations, pioneers! Welcome to the world of Web 2.0 technology! Below is curriculum that distributes Web 2.0 learning into weighted categories to help you move developmentally through the process of learning essential technology for teachers.

Introduction

I'd first like to call your attention to two things:

1.) A brief overview of the philosophy behind Web 2.0 technologyies supported by selected video clips

2.) A variety of free Web 2.0 services that can help you navigate the Web and create effective and fun tech projects.

First Lesson: Mind Adjustment or "Here comes the future!"

Watch and think about the implications to Education of the following videos:

  1. The Question of Change
  2. Information R/evolution
  3. The Machine is Using Us
  4. An Anthropological Introduction to YouTube (long)
  5. Shift Happens
  6. A Vision of K-12 Students Today
  7. But Watch Out for IOS

Second Lesson: Social Bookmarking and Images (Optional)

Consider using iGoogle

Set up a Delicious Account

Set up a Flickr Account (Flickr Classroom Applications)

Look at MorgueFile for free photos

Set up a StockXchg Account

Play around with picnik

Look over wordle.net

Third Lesson: PBWorks instead of Web Page

Set up your PBWorks site--the front page is your new Home Page

You'll probably want to have some images on your Flickr account

Any you may want to edit those images on your new picnik account--it's free!

We'll want to have:

  • an image
  • an introduction
  • a table
  • an email link
  • and links in your sidebar
  • and we'll want to play a lot

Sixth Lesson: Your Ed Tech Journal

Begin your Ed Tech Journal (on your PBWiki):

Create a new page on your PBWiki (or create a Blog for this purpose). Name it "Education Technology Review."

Create a section (use the horizontal bar) for each technology tool we investigate in class.

Include the following information for each tool: (6 minimum)

  • Name: (e.g., Animoto)
  • Description: (copy and paste if you wish)
  • At least two specific teaching/learning ideas (e.g., "students would . . .")
  • A brief reflection of the strengths and weaknesses associated with using this in the classroom.
  • A link to any application you created using this tool (or embed it into the PBWorks page)
  •

Seventh Lesson (VoiceThread or Mixbook Critical Learning Piece)

Choose EITHER the VoiceThread project OR the Snapfish project.

NOTE:  The VoiceThread or the Snapfish should be embedded into a PBWorks page, not linked to the host site. Also, supporting pieces of the project (e.g., lesson plan, scoring guide, etc.) must also be presented within a PBWorks site in their entirety and not presented as links to Word documents for best practice.

Mixbook Curriculum Project

Create and publish your books online or publish in hard copy. Free to create electronic version! Connected to Flickr and Photobucket. Mixbook products are wonderful motivators for displaying student work and sharing with parents and the entire school. Imagine your class presenting a photo book of their work to the school principal for archiving in the school library!
